See Here: THE SCIENCE OF YOUR V@GINA: HOW YOU CAN CHANGE WHAT IT TASTES LIKE

Vulvas–the outer area of the internal v@gina that gets incorrectly lumped into the v@gina category a lot–smell and taste like vulvas, end of story…

or is it?

MyVag provides a much more detailed description of what a vulva tastes like (for those of you who don’t know):

“The taste of a v@gina comes mostly from the fluids in it, and is thus stronger inside the v@gina itself and than in the external parts. The taste is not quite sour, but somewhat astringent, perhaps because the v@gina is, after all, acidic.”

Okay, so it’s a little more complicated than a vulva smells and tastes like a vulva.

After even a little research it becomes clear there’s a lot more to it than that.

According to $exuality Expert Cory Silverberg, there are a number of things that can alter the taste of a vulva: natural bodily secretions, arousal fluids, sweat and what been the female has been eating and drinking. Of course, other factors like pregnancy, infections and STDs can also alter the smell and taste as well.

The good news is: knowing that there are things that can alter the smell and taste of your v@gina means there are things you can actively do to change the smell and yes, even taste.

The first thing you need to know is that your vulva’s smell and taste are both directly linked your v@ginal pH level. Thus, every vulva does have a slightly different taste. According to Dr. Streicher, a healthy v@ginal pH level rests around 3.5–4.5, indicating a normal amount of “good” bacteria and no overgrowth of “bad” bacteria.

If something smells or tastes “off”–different from your norm–it indicates a potential pH imbalance.

If are concerned about any CHANGES in your vulva’s smell or taste, please don’t hesitate to visit a doctor.

However, if you’re just looking for a little “freshening up,” follow the tips that are soon to follow.

First, there are two big culprits potentially messing up your vulva’s pH levels that you need to know about. Before I share them with you though, know that there’s no judgement here. If you want to indulge in the following items, that’s your choice as a grown woman.

Okay, here they are:

1. Smoking Cigarettes

Have you ever heard that smoking can give your vulva ashtray breath?
Jezebel tells its readers tongue-and-cheek that “[w]hile smoking will make you cool, like cooler than you could ever manage on your own, smoking will make the taste of your body’s juices turn sour.”

How can this possibly be?

Think about it: every pH-altering puff you inhale into your lungs ends up in your bloodstream. The real question is how could it not affect your vulva’s taste?

2. Drinking Alc0h0l

Multi-Gyn adds that while smoking negatively affects the taste and smell of your vulva, alc0h0l does the very same thing. Some experts take the drinking–smell/taste correlation to new heights and suggest “avoiding … caffeine may also help induce a more favorable flavor.”

But wait, there’s more!

Other items that female’s concerned with smell/taste can avoid are:

1. Dairy products

2. Asparagus

3. Meat products

4. Broccoli

5. Onions

6. Garlic

7. Over-the-counter medications and recreational drugs

I sense some hard times ahead…

so what the heck can we do here?

First, keep in mind these aren’t permanent changes to your vulva’s pH level. That’s right, if you go really crazy this weekend and eat a ton of broccoli and asparagus, your v@gina is not doomed for all eternity. Realistically, the effects only last a few days.

While there’s an unfortunate lack of scientific evidence to back the claims, it’s well known that eating certain foods can help improve the smell and taste of your v@gina.

What are these magical foods you ask?

Don’t worry, I’ll tell you. However, it’s important to remember the wise words of Dr. Cory Silverberg when embarking on the journey to alter your v@gina’s smell and taste for the “better:”

“…the fact is that taste is largely subjective, so while they [certain foods] may change the way you taste, the “better” part is really a judgement by you/anyone you’re sharing your v@ginal taste with!”

In response, I’d like to add: if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Okay, here are the foods you CAN eat in effort to improve your vulva’s smell and taste:

1. Pineapple

2. Watermelon

3. Strawberries

4. Bananas

5. Cinnamon

6. Ginger

Things are starting to seem a little better, no?

Now let’s all go for some fruit salad and Chai tea!
